SBSC Progress and Planning Workshop, November 2015

NIST convened the second workshop of the SBSC at the Quadrus Conference Center in Menlo Park, CA (SBSC Planning and Progress Workshop Announcement). The goals of this workshop were to establish a strategic framework for how NIST would prioritize standards development efforts identified by the working groups, provide working groups time and space to refine their proposed standards products, and begin to collaboratively draft documents outlining the proposed products.

The strategic principle driving the work of the SBSC is to support the development of the standards and metrology infrastructure necessary to allow the disaggregation of the canonical synthetic biology workflow across multiple institutions. Topical working groups met to discuss and develop products. As a result of the discussion at the workshop, several products had been identified that are actionable and would support the disaggregation and growth of the synthetic biology enterprise.
